A building can have a lift and still require stairs at the public entrance. An adapted unit in a difficult building may not work for the traveler.
Inspect the bathroom and bed
Ask for precise measurements when a wheelchair or walker must fit. Check shower thresholds, toilet approach, grab rails if needed, floor slip risk and the height of the bed. Do not rely on the phrase “accessible apartment” without concrete descriptions or photographs. For a traveler with specific equipment, compatibility needs to be verified item by item.
Consider local transport handoff
A steep pavement, uneven sidewalk or building entrance on a congested avenue can complicate pickups. Ask where taxis or accessible vehicles can safely stop and whether the entrance is sheltered. Compare that route against hospitals, errands or other regular destinations.
Write essential features into the booking
If step-free access or a specific bathroom feature determines whether you can stay, make it an explicit condition confirmed by the operator. Ask what happens if the elevator fails. A visual inspection before payment is especially valuable for longer bookings.
